Post Date:11/02/2021 8:58 AM
RACINE – With more than 11 years working with Racine County’s finances and the last two serving as the fiscal manager for the Human Services Department (HSD), Gwen Zimmer will become the interim finance director effective Monday, Nov. 15. She will be replacing current director Brian Nelson following his retirement.

“I have been extremely impressed with Gwen’s work for HSD, and we are lucky to have someone with her expertise,” said County Executive Jonathan Delagrave. “Gwen has managed an extensive and complex budget, and she has been an invaluable voice in the room when developing the County budget. She will be a great addition to my management team.”

Zimmer managed a $54 million expense budget while serving on the leadership team of the County’s largest department since 2019. She oversaw HSD’s accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, procurement, and state and federal grant reporting.

Prior to joining HSD, she served as the finance manager for the Finance Department from 2017-19 following two years as the accounting supervisor for the Public Works and Development Services Department (2015-17). Zimmer began her career with Racine County as an accounting technician in 2010.

Zimmer earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Upper Iowa University and a Master of Science in management and leadership from Western Governor’s University.
