Evidence

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Custodian plays a critical role in the proper collection, identification, and preservation of evidence gathered by Deputies and Investigators.

Maintaining the integrity of the chain of custody, the Evidence Custodian ensures that all evidence is securely handled and, when necessary, sent to the Crime Lab for analysis.

As forensic science continues to evolve, the field of evidence collection and processing requires ongoing advancements in techniques and technology. The Evidence Custodian and Investigators remain actively engaged in learning and implementing the latest industry standards to ensure accurate and efficient evidence handling.

Additionally, the Evidence Custodian is responsible for delivering blood samples for processing through the high-demand Evidence Section and the Wisconsin State Hygiene Lab/Crime Lab.

Once the District Attorney has authorized the release of evidence, the Evidence Custodian facilitates its return to the rightful owner, following all legal and procedural requirements.
