The Racine County Dive Team operates under the authority of the Sheriff's Office and consists of personnel from local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services (EMS), and other public safety agencies within Racine County.  Established by Racine County Resolution No. 2004-59 on July 13, 2004, the team was formed to serve both its member organizations and the community effectively.

The RCDT functions in accordance with Wisconsin State Statutes, including Section 59.27, which authorizes operations within the county, and Section 2.04, which extends jurisdiction to boundary waters such as Lake Michigan.

The team is deployed in response to a variety of critical situations, including but not limited to emergencies, natural disasters, man-made catastrophes, and acts of terrorism.  Utilizing specialized skills and equipment, the RCDT conducts operations both within and beyond Racine County as necessary to safeguard lives and, in certain cases, recover essential materials that aid the Sheriff's Office in fulfilling its duties.
