Crises Negotiations Team

The Racine County Sheriff's Office maintains a highly trained and specialized Crises Negotiations Team (CNT) to respond to critical incidents involving individuals in crisis. This elite unit is composed of deputies who have received extensive training in de-escalation techniques, active listening, and crisis intervention.

The primary role of the CNT is to establish open communication with individuals who may be experiencing a mental health emergency, contemplating self-harm, or engaged in a hostage or barricade situation. Through patient and empathetic dialogue, the team aims to resolve these high-risk scenarios peacefully and minimize the potential for violence.

The deputies on the CNT undergo regular scenario-based training to hone their skills in crisis negotiation. They are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to assess the unique dynamics of each situation and tailor their approach accordingly. By building rapport and trust, the CNT strives to guide individuals towards a safe resolution and connect them with appropriate support services.
